About the Author
Hi! I’m Becky Rice. I’m a teacher, sci-fi nerd, and the human companion of a possibly alien Australian Shepherd named Shipmate.
I write middle grade stories for curious, clever kids who like a little weird with their wonder. My debut novel, The Invasion 2026, was inspired by a lifetime love of science, especially space and weather, and my everyday work with the smartest people I know: my students.
Before becoming a teacher, I served in the U.S. Navy, where I trained intelligence analysts. That’s where I unexpectedly discovered how much I love teaching. Now, with five years in the classroom and three teenagers of my own, I bring that same passion to fiction. My tone is shaped by real kids and real chaos, always grounded in a deep respect for how young people see the world.
My students are my first readers and toughest critics (and, thankfully, my biggest fans). They’ve helped shape everything I write and they push me to make each story sharper, funnier, and more meaningful.
The Invasion 2026 is just the beginning. My head is full of strange, wonderful ideas I can’t wait to share.
